Frosted film gives strong daytime privacy, but at night a lit room can still show soft silhouettes, since frost blurs detail, not light. You can add a blind on that window if you want full cover after dark.
Here's where people get mixed up. Frosted window film blocks the view. It doesn't block much heat, and it barely touches glare. If your real problem is a hot garage window or a sunroom that bakes all summer, frosted film won't fix it. That's a job for home window tinting, with sun control film specifically, which is a different product doing a different job.
So how do you know which you need? Ask what's bothering you. Is it people seeing in, or is it heat and brightness? Privacy points to frosted film: bathroom windows, office glass doors, a street-facing window near a Fraser front porch. Heat or glare points to sun control, and no amount of frosting will change that.
Some people might ask for frosted film to cool a room that bakes in July. It won't do that. Once we talk it through, sun control film is the right pick, and we'd rather get you the right product the first time than sell you the wrong one.
As previously mentioned, frosted film is great for privacy, but it's not a fix for every glass problem. Cracked or deeply scratched glass needs repair first, since film won't hide the damage or stop a crack from spreading. A fogged, failed double-pane seal is a glass replacement too, not something film should cover up.
It's also the wrong tool for two other goals. If you want heat and UV kept out, that's sun control film. If you want glass that holds together in a break-in, that's security window film. Again, frosted film does privacy and looks, not those jobs.
And if there's old film peeling on the glass now, we won't lay frosted over it. Tint removal comes first, then frosted goes on clean. Skip that and the new film bubbles within weeks.

If you want full privacy after dark, pair the film with a blind or curtain on that window.
The big ones are skipping surface prep and rushing the cut. Frosted film shows every trapped speck, bubble, and crooked edge, so clean glass and precise trimming matter more than with clear film. Using ammonia-based cleaners while the film is curing can also break down the adhesive. And DIY static-cling kits tend to peel and show seams within months, especially on older glass.
Not on the front. Michigan law (MCL 257.709) restricts film that obstructs the driver's view on the windshield and front side windows, so opaque frosted film isn't legal there.
